A Look At Faiths

The photos below demonstrates some of the work children across the school completed around the theme of stories in RE and how they help us gain tolerance and understanding of people of different faiths and beliefs.

Approaching New Years with EYFS

In RE for Spring 1 EYFS has followed the planning about New Year. The children talked about New Year and created their own resolutions. They then discussed the importance of the Lunar New Year origin story and how the celebration has changed over time.

Parsing Passover with Year 2

In the Spring term Year 2 have been learning about Judaism. Throughout the unit the children explored the question ‘How special is the relationship Jews have with God?’. They investigated the story Passover to understand this special relationship by  learning about how Jews celebrate Passover with a Seder plate. They discussed the symbolic food that is eaten or displayed at the Passover. The children then created their own plates having first reflected upon which foods are special and symbolic of them as individuals.

Nativity Analysis with Year 4

In Year 4 during Spring the children explored what each symbol  in the nativity story meant and how it related to to Jesus, as both a human being and the son of God. The children developed an understanding that Jesus as God’s son symbolises God’s gift to the world in order to save and help the world.

5 Pillars of Islam with Year 6

In Spring 1 Year 6 have been learning about how Muslims show commitment by performing the five core practices or the five pillars of Islam. During this half term, the pupils had the opportunity to watch the story of a young girl’s journey to Mecca to perform the 5th pillar of Islam, Hajj. The children thought about the difficulties of that some families may have to show this commitment.
