Place Knowledge in Geography

We are proud to show the learning in various geography units across the school. They reflect our work on Place Knowledge, where we learn about human and physical features and the interactions between humans and the physical environment.

Environments in Nursery

The children have been using the small world resources to build environments that are relevant to them. In this picture the children are making a home with walls, doors and windows. They then moved on to make gardens and play parks. In a way they were physically mapping their experiences and local environment.

Seasides in Year 1

As part of our topic, Year 1 identified the similarities between Woolwich and St Ives in Cornwall. For example Woolwich is next to the river Thames but St Ives is next to sea with sand and waves. They also looked at the key features of a Seaside and what makes a seaside special.

Somewhere to Settle in Year 3

In Year 3, the children have been identifying and researching different types of settlement. They looked at maps and images to help them determine how land was used in different areas and the differences between rural and urbans settlements.

Year 5 Rivers

In Year 5, the children learnt about rivers and how they are used. We learnt the location of some of the U.K’s major rivers and estimated their length using string and a ruler. We compared the land use around.
