Reel Histories, Saxon Mysteries
The development of the children’s understanding of the use of sources in history (primary, secondary and artefacts). Through the teaching of age-appropriate key vocabulary, children are able to discuss the sources used in progressive detail reflecting on the historical information they provide and the reliability of it. They become more proficient at selecting appropriate sources for the task and identifying bias.
A Land Before Time - Nursery
In Nursery, we have been using a range of sources to find out about fossils, types of dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures. We now know we can use both the internet and information books as a source, to carry out research into the past.
Histroric Views Through Timeless Hues - Year 1
Year 1 have been learning to make observations and talk about a source from the past. They explored paintings of the past, imagined they were inside the paintings and used their senses to describe what it might be like and what might be happening.
Reel History in Motion - Year 4
In Year 4, we have been learning about the history of film. We watched an original ‘Saturday morning pictures’ film reel (primary source), imagining we had attended it. Then we discussed if we thought that going to the cinema was more special in the past than now, based on this source.
Historical Examininations on Saxon Habitations - Year 5
Year 5 have been learning about the Anglo-Saxons. They tested out a hypothesis about where the Anglo Saxons lived by interpreting local place names (primary source).
