French Fluency

Develop the children’s confidence in using French in their daily life making links to the maths curriculum (counting, times tables, telling the time). Just like we have expectations of children using French in their usual classroom routines such as answering the register, or asking for water. 

French x Maths in Year 3

In Year 3, the children build a good foundation of number learning to say and write some numbers between 1 - 15, asking and answering questions about their age.

This extends to children being able to read and write dates in French. 

This photo displays a child's learning on Showbie in which they have written multiplication number sentences using digits alongside pictorial representations. They they left voice notes for each question using the new french vocabulary they have learnt. 

Conversation French in Year 5

In Year 5, the children could build upon their knowledge of fruits, numbers, and greetings to role-play customers buying fruit in a supermarket. In the first photo, the children are shown able to role-play, holding conversations about the price and amount of various fruits. They then extended their learning further by writing down their role-play sentences, emphasising practising accurate use of verbs in agreement with nouns.
