Collaborating in Computing

At Heronsgate our strong progress in developing our skills is through working collaboratively using iPads and technology. Collaboration is an important part of the computing curriculum, as well as our ‘iPad Toolkit’, encouraging children look to work together and draw on each other’s skills to create something new. They can work as a team and help each other become more creative.

Digital Safety in Reception

In Reception, children worked together on activities from Safer Internet Day, thinking about different types of electronic devices and how they could be used safely.

Make it stand out

In Year 2, collaboration has been shown through the children working together to successfully code and solve problems on Code Spark. The children were learning key computational thinking skills such as using ‘If’ statements; using algorithms to solve puzzles and even learning to design and evaluate their own games.

Replicating the Film Making Workflow

Year 4 have been working collaboratively to replicate the process of movie creation from understanding how to use the camera effectively, through to planning storyboards, capturing video successfully as a team, importing video to iMovie and then finally editing and exporting the final piece.

Make it stand out

Year 6 have been working collaboratively on an iMovie unit. Working together, they have created movies using various sources. These include live recording using green screen, voiceovers and Ken Burns effect. They have then come back to the classroom as a team and edited them to create a finished documentary.
