Art Exploration

The pictures show the practice and composition stage of the learning journey towards creating a final art piece. We are so impressed with the art skills that are shown below and how they were used to inform the children’s final art designs.

Still Life in EYFS

The children created still-life art using pencils and watercolour paints. The children were encouraged to select a piece of real fruit to study and then use pencils to draw its shape and features. After this stage, children then took another piece of paper to use watercolour paints with thin paint brushes to create their final piece of artwork.

Landscape Painting in Year 2

In Spring 1, in Year 2 the children created a landscape painting inspired by the work of Joseph Turner. In this lesson, the children practiced various techniques that were used by Turner to see which ones they would like to use in their final piece.

Master Studies in Year 3

In Year 3, the children created a piece of art in the style of the African American artist Faith Ringgold. They looked at how she builds her paintings into a story piece by focussing on the central image, using patterns and writing. The children practiced mixing colours and then used this to create their piece.

Technique Exploration with Year 5

In Spring 1, in Year 5 they created biome landscape watercolour paintings inspired by the artist Georgia O'Keeffe. In one lesson, the children practiced various watercolour techniques to see which ones they would like to use in their own paintings.
