Sensory Needs with SEND

The photographs show the importance of meeting sensory needs. Children are given opportunites to explore safely and they are provided with tools and coping mechanisms to support them when necessary, promoting independence. The thread shows how the children’s sensory needs are being met and supported across the school. 

Forest School in EYFS

Here, children are engaging in Forest School, where they are able to safely explore the outdoors with the aim of awakening their senses.

Exploring Music in KS1

In the Nest provision, a group of KS1 children are engaging in a TACPAC session, where different senses are explored through the use of music.

Gross Motor Skills in Lower Key Stage 2

Here are children engaging in a group session called Write Dance. This intervention supports children with their gross motor movements by using sensory stimulus.

Self Regulation in Upper Key Stage 2

Here is a Year 5 child independently using a self regulation tool (ear defenders) to support during periods of overstimulation.
