Food and Drink in French

The photographs celebrate our strong progress in developing our French vocabulary to be able to speak and write about food and drink. The children had many chances to use their food and drink vocabulary throughout the term. Most frequently, in the French Café, during which they had an opportunity to interact with French-speaking teachers and role-play ordering food. We have found that using real-life situations has really enhanced the children’s use of relevant vocabulary.

Translating in Year 3

This Year Three child has been combining their knowledge of French numbers and fruit to read and translate simple phrases. This child also wrote 2 phrases of their own, with a focus on using the correct spellings.

Year 5 French Cafe

This Year Five child has used their knowledge of French food and other relevant vocabulary to order food and drinks at the French café. This child was able to converse with the server by asking and answering questions about the food and drinks in French. This included a greeting, what they wanted to eat and drink, basic manners (such as please and thank you), and a goodbye. As part of their learning, they would have rehearsed this vocabulary in class.
