Art Reflecting Life

A Heronsgate Art student has an increasing knowledge and understanding of a range of art skills, artists, designers and craftspeople and can use this experience to analyse, design and create art works in a range of styles.

Creative Self Portraits - Reception

In Reception, the children explored self portraits. They found out what a self portrait is. The children used mirrors to talk about their facial features and colours. Then they spent some time creating their own self portraits. They used different mediums to create some of their features, such as their hair.

Vincent Van Gogh Inspiration - Year 1

In Year 1, the children explored the style of the artist Vincent Van Gogh. They thought about how the artwork was created, the way it was created and what they noticed. The children enjoyed learning that he used short, thickly painted brushstrokes to create movement and that his favouite colour to paint with was yellow.

Examining Materials for Art - Year 4

In Year 4, the children found out about WW1 memorials and designed their own. They made clay pots and this exploration helped them to decide if clay would be a good material for making their own memorials. They identified the advantages and disadvantages and made adjustments to their designs based on their new knowledge.

Using Art for Advocation - Year 6

In Year 6, the children explored justice and picked a theme that is important to them. Some children chose globalisation, woman’s rights and Black Lives Matter. In this lesson, they created a mood board with ideas and images for their print.
