Colourful Semantics - Early Years

Colourful Semantics is an intervention used to support children in developing language and sentence building skills. It also supports children in developing their spoken language, along with written language using colour and symbols. The children were able to build confidence by understanding the basic structure of a sentences. Social communication was supported through the use of visuals too. 

Building Communicative Confidence - KS1

Communication books we use in the Nest have different sections to aid communication. A common one to use is the “where hurts?” boards and in the dining hall we use the boards to order our lunch. This has enabled the children to become more confident to use their voice and ask for what they need. 

Building Social Skills - KS2

A tool we use in the Nest to improve social skills and enable pupils to follow instructions is to play barrier games. Our children in KS2 particularly enjoy this and it has improved their patience, turn taking and listening skills.

Shape Coding for Sentence Structure - UKS2

Following our recent training, the Nest lead has implemented shape coding invention with children to support sentence structure.
