Here Comes Treble!
The musical skills of the instrumental lessons has been a focus for this term. Children across the school have been part of whole school instrumental lessons. In KS1, children learn the recorder and the notes B, A and G. They learn these notes on the treble clef and basic rhythms to enable them to play together as a group. Children in KS2 build on these skills by starting from middle C and using the correct fingering learn the notes C, D, E, F and G with a range of pieces for each of these notes.

Blow it, Clap it, Stomp it, Play it - Year 2
In music with recorders we have started by going over the basics, such as the correct way to hold the recorder and blow into it, as well as around tonguing to change notes. We then moved into learning the correct holds for different notes such as the A, B, and G notes. Each lesson we have been going over and putting all the notes we know together into a musical piece. We start by clapping and stomping out the song after listening to it, and then move onto playing it on our recorders. We have started as well looking at changing the length of certain notes when playing.
Keys to Success - Year 3
In Year 3 we have been learning to play the keyboard, we started by going over the basics, the correct way to position your hands, as well as proper finger placement on the keys. We then moved on to learning the correct technique for playing different notes, starting with simple ones like C, D, and E. Each lesson, we focus on one note and practice it until we are confident with that key, and then we begin to combine the notes we’ve learned into simple melodies. We start by clapping and singing the song, then move on to playing it on the keyboard. We have also learnt to read basic music, and what each key means.
Musical Finesse, Performance Success - Year 5
In Year 5 we have built on the keyboard learning from year 4. We have been focusing on the notes C, D, E, F and G as well as learning some more complicated rhythms such as dotted minims. We have made sure that the correct fingering is used to play the different notes in preparation of using different hand positions. We have ensured time for practice so children are able to embed these skills and have the confidence to perform in front of an audience.
