Photons, Magnets, Waves
Through our actions we will ensure the Science curriculum demonstrates strong progress.
We want a Heronsgate scientist to explore the world around them, be able to ask and answer questions by using their scientific enquiry skills and to be able to evaluate and present their conclusions clearly and accurately.
Marvellous Magnetics - EYFS
In EYFS children have been exploring their environment using magnets. They noticed that the magnetic tile stuck to some things and not others. They discussed what types of materials the magnets were attracted to and went on a metal hunt around the room.
The 5 Major Senses - Year 1
Year 1 have been learning all about their senses and how they help us day to day. They were able to observe how one sense affects the other and carried out an investigation to see if their sense of smell changed when they couldn’t use their sense of sight.
Photons, Defraction, SPF, Shadows - Year 3
Year 3 have been focusing on the topic of light. They explored how to keep safe in sunlight, how reflections and shadows are impacted by light and then planned and carried out their own investigation to explore the transparency of different materials.
Observe, Record, Analyse - Year 5
Children in Year 5 have been learning about forces and magnets. As part of their exploration lesson they observed different forces in magnets in action and recorded what they know and posed questions about what they hope to find out during their unit of work.
