Diversity in Our Community

In PSHE we are aiming to teach children how to appropriately deal with the variety of experiences that they will encounter in life.

Our Community Within Books - EYFS

In our continuous provision we have a range of fiction and non-fiction books that represent the children and the varied backgrounds that make up our school community. Children regularly point differences and similarities and are beginning to understand that we are all different.

Variety of People in London - Year 1

In Year 1 we answered the question: how multicultural is my class? We thought about how London is a multicultural city full of people with different backgrounds. We thought about the different languages, food, music and celebrations! We then drew a picture of all the things that are important to them and their families  and  culture!

Deafness and Sign Language- Year 3

In Year 3, the children discussed what it could be like to live with a hearing impairment and how some people in the Deaf community might communicate: sign language. In this lesson children learnt basic words in sign language.

Disabilities in Our Community - Year 5

In Year 5, children explored the diversity within disabilities and how disabilities can come in different forms: visible and invisible. Children recognise that everyone should be respected no matter what and nobody regardless of their disability should be underestimated.
