The Great Heronsgate Spelling Bee

The Great Heronsgate Spelling Bee has once again created a ‘buzz’ of excitement in the summer term. Before the spelling bee, each class took part in a spelling carousel which was a great way to practise words from the statutory spelling lists. The children played games such as bananagrams and set up ‘hives’ to test their spelling skill using Spelling Shed. The children were also given a list of fun activities, on a spelling challenges grid, to work on at home. This also made preparing for the spelling bee fun. In KS1, each class held a class spelling bee and in KS2, a spelling bee was held for each year group. The children all worked very hard and huge congratulations to all the winners and runners up.

The top spellers in Year 5 and 6 took part in the Thamesmead Cluster Spelling Bee. They competed in 7 rounds of tough spelling tasks and placed third in the competition. Well done to Minghao, Meryl, Jordan and Holly for brilliantly representing Heronsgate School.
