Designing Evacuee bags in Year 6

Last term, Year 6 engaged in some thought provoking and creative DT learning. They were tasked to design and make a bag for a specific purpose. Given their History topic was WW2, their project involved making a small carry bag that an evacuee could use to carry important documents or personal possessions when travelling. As evacuees were only ever able to take a very small number of items with them, the children had to factor this into their designs.

Over the half term, Year 6 investigated and evaluated a number of bags for different purposes, including their shape and the materials used. They also considered how fastenings were used to close them. After designing, making cutting templates, and perfecting the running stitch, the Year 6 children produced some amazing carry bags!
