Sports Coaches in PE

We are delighted to have our amazing sports coaches supporting Heronsgate in P.E.

Outdoor Games in Reception

In the Spring term, our Sportacus coaches have been running brilliant outdoor P.E games sessions for our reception children. They have set up an area in the playground each week and invited children to come and join in with a range of P.E games, which involved listening and following instructions and using some P.E equipment such as cones, balls and hoops. The children have loved the sessions and enjoyed developing their skills through games such as cops and robbers and dodge the hoop.

Play Leaders in Year 2

In KS1, our fantastic coaches have been supporting the children at break times to develop play leaders. This is to encourage children to play sports games at break time such as football, basketball and games with hoops. It helps them work together and to go on to play games more independently. During wet play there has also been the opportunity for Sportacus to lead fitness activities in the classrooms through their recorded videos as well as live in person. In this image, coach Grant is leading a meditation session at playtime in Year 2.

Cricket Coaches in Year 4

In Year 4, our children have been working with coaches from Platform Cricket, who have been developing the children’s skills in bowling, batting and fielding. At the end of the block of coaching sessions, the children are invited to join ‘pop up’ cricket clubs that allow access to community cricket for children in the area. Their mission is to increase the number of children in London participating in cricket and increase the amount of children from disadvantaged and ethnic minority backgrounds participating cricket.

Gymnastics in Year 5

Sportacus coaches have been working with Year 5 in the Spring term in their gymnastic lessons and with Year 6 in their dance lessons. The children have been developing a range of skills and have really enjoyed using the large apparatus in gymnastics such as the A frames and wall bars. The teachers have been working alongside the coaches and have been developing their own teaching skills and confidence when teaching gymnastics and dance.
