Learning to read in French

These photos show how children are learning to read in French and demonstrate their understanding. In lower Key Stage 2 they start by matching pictures of nouns to words and phrases. By upper Key Stage 2 they are able to read and demonstrate their understanding of full sentences in some familiar topics.

Breakfast Food in Year 3

Year 3 pupils have been able to read and understand simple phrases to identify breakfast foods. They have demonstrated their understanding by matching the appropriate picture to each phase.

Jack and the Beanstalk in Year 5

Year 5 have been reading the story of Jack and the Beanstalk in French. These used their knowledge of this familiar tale to put the events of the story, written in French, in order. They then read their completed story out loud to their partner.
