Belonging in our Community

The photographs celebrate our strong progress in developing our knowledge of belonging in our community and world. It is important that when children leave Heronsgate they understand the impact their actions and choices can have on the world.

Learning about our World in Reception

In Reception, children spend time in forest school learning about the plants, animals and insects that can be found in their local environment. They learn what local wildlife needs to thrive and how they can look after the world around them.

Learning about our School in Year 1

In Year 1, children explored their understanding of what it means to belong and how we belong to our school as well as other communities and groups. Children were then asked to create a piece of work illustrating what groups or organisations they belong to.

Learning about Recycling in Year 3

In Year 3, the children found out about landfill sites and the need for new sites. They discussed the importance of recycling to reduce the amount of waste thrown into land fill and the negative impacts that they have on the local environment and the world.

Learning about Gangs in Year 6

In Year 6, the children explored how some people belong to a gang and the impact that can have on themselves, their families and those around them. They discussed what attributes they expect from a friend, someone they can trust and if they ever feel uncomfortable what they should do. The children learnt a great deal and feel confident stepping out into their place in the world!
