Regions and Resources

A Heronsgate geographer understands the natural and human environments of places in the UK and the world and how they are the same and different to other places. They develop skills in map work, fieldwork and observation. They develop concern about the human impact on the quality of the environment and enhance their sense of responsibility to care for the Earth and its peoples for the future. They cultivate their sense of wonder at the beauty and variety of the world and the diversity of peoples and places.

Roles Within Our Community - Reception

In Reception, as part of our topic of ‘our local community’ children have been discussing their families and the people within their local community. They have talked about different people and the jobs they do such as police officers, teachers, doctors and firefighters. They have then created their own representations of all the different people who help us.

The Many Features of Woolwich - Year 1

In Year 1, we learnt about our local area, Woolwich. We went around our local area and spotted the human and physical features. We discussed how we felt about them and why. We also thought about how we might want to change things for the better!

North VS South - Year 4

In Year 4, we are comparing the regions of the north of the UK (the county of Cumbria) with the south east region (the county of Greater London) in terms of their typical human and physical characteristics. We made generalisations based on this.

Natural Resources and Extraction - Year 5

In Year 5, we learnt about if there was enough resources for everyone in the world. We researched, compared and reflected on the impact of the extraction of natural resources in the U.K. and Borneo. We discussed what made these two locations special and unique by looking at their physical and human features.
