Masters of Art
The pictures show the practice and composition stage of the learning journey towards creating a final art piece. They show clearly the art skills that have been taught during the unit and how they were used to inform the children’s final art designs. We are really impressed by the children’s wonderful work.
Art Inspired by “Handa’s Surprise” - Reception
The children in Reception used pencils and pastels to create still life pictures of the fruit from their core book Handa’s Surprise. Children used the pencils to sketch the outline of the fruit and then used pastels to colour their fruit and bring it to life. They discussed colour and different types of line movements that can be used when working with pastels (i.e. circles and spirals for the grapes, long spikes for the pineapple).
Art Inspired by Joseph Turner - Year 2
In Spring 1, Year 2 explored the work of Joseph Turner, in particular the landscapes that he produced. Then the children created a landscape painting inspired by his work. In this lesson, the children practiced various techniques that were used by Turner to see which ones they would like to use in their final piece.
Art Inspired by Faith Ringgold - Year 3
In Spring, Year 3 explored the art of Faith Ringgold. The children practiced the skill of drawing a proportional portrait and how to create an eye catching background by exploring the colour wheel. They also chose their own inspirational person to draw and inspirational quotes to place on the picture. This photo shows some of the examples.
Art Inspired by Georgia O’Keefe - Year 5
In Spring, Year 5 explore the work of Georgia O’Keefe’s landscape paintings which link to our Biomes Geography topic. They use watercolours to create landscape paintings of our preferred biomes. This photo shows the children practising different watercolour techniques before then composing their landscape picture.
