Faith and Being Virtuous

A Heronsgate Religious Education student uses specialist vocabulary, critically interprets, reflects and evaluates the context that is presented to them and uses this to ask searching questions. They understand that life experiences impact other peoples’ religion and worldviews and respect this.

Bilal the Butterfly with Reception

In Reception, the children learn Religious Education through the sharing of stories. The children explored the story of Bilal and the beautiful butterfly (a Muslim story). They learnt how the beauty in the world has been created by god, which also linked to their understanding of how the natural world changes with the seasons.

Pilgrimages to Mecca with Year 2

In Year 2 the children have been learning about Islam they learnt  about Muslims going on a pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj) at least once in their lives. They reflected upon what makes Hajj journey special and made links to a special journey they have experienced or would like to make.

Langar: Sharing and Equality with Year 3

In Year 3 the children learnt about the Langar in Sikhism, which promotes the equal sharing of food and wealth (Langar). Sikh’s believe that all humans should be treated equally and Langar encourages equality between different races, genders and classes. The children reflected upon how sharing can have a positive affect their relationships with other people. 

Karma and Consequence with Year 5

In Year 5 the children have explored how HIndu’s believe in karma, that every positive or negative  action has a direct consequence on that individual’s life (Karma) . We then reflected upon how our actions impact our lives and how we may make small gestures to improve our own quality of life and bring ourselves good karma.
