Composition in Art

The pictures show the practice and composition stage of the learning journey towards creating a final art piece. We are so impressed with the art skills shown below and how they were used to inform their art designs.

Mark-making in Nursery

This nursery painting is an example of mark making of their family, using their chosen colours. The children talked about who they lived with and made marks with the paint as they spoke.

Relief Printing in Year 2

This is a Year 2 practice print demonstrating the skill of relief printing by carving a design into a polystyrene tile. The children had to consider the amount of printing ink they needed to use on their roller to achieve the most effective print. Through practicing this skill, it helped inform the children’s final design.

Year 3 inspired by Faith Ringgold

In Year 3 the children have been mixing primary colours with secondary colours in order to create an art piece inspired by the American artist Faith Ringgold.

Sewing techniques in Year 5

In art, Year 5 were inspired by the work of Louise Baldwin who created her art using textiles. The children practised sewing techniques including the running stitch, cross stitch and back stitch, before drawing their solar system design.
